Wildpark Schorfheide

The Aurochs was the ancestor of our domestic breeds of cattle. Originally spread over Europe, Central Asia, the Near East and North Africa. Extinct since 1627. Back-breeding in Germany approx. since 1940 by the Heck brothers. Characteristics: straight, short, brown-black pelage with light dorsal streak. Height: 175 to 185 cm (5'9" to 6'1") (cows 110 to 150 cm (3'7" to 4'11")). Weight: 800 to 1,000 kg (126 to 157 st) (cows 650 to 800 kg (102 to 126 st)).
